Operating Principles for Impact Management Disclosure 2023

In step with 186 leading impact investors across 40 countries, Deetken Impact Sustainable Energy (DISE) continues to champion rigorous, principle-based impact investing as a signatory to the Operating Principles for Impact Management (OPIM). Together, this global community oversees $595 billion in assets dedicated to generating both financial returns and measurable, lasting impact.

The Impact Principles provide a comprehensive framework to embed impact considerations throughout the investment lifecycle—guiding everything from strategy and due diligence to monitoring and exit. Our 2025 Disclosure Statement affirms DISE’s ongoing commitment to these Principles and the high standards they represent.

Over the past decade, the impact investing field has made meaningful strides in accountability and transparency, thanks in large part to frameworks like OPIM, and we are proud to play a leadership role in advancing best practices in impact management across emerging markets. Recently selected as co-chair of OPIM’s Latin America and Caribbean Regional Committee, DISE CEO Fernando Alvarado helps guide efforts to strengthen regional impact ecosystems and bring greater visibility to local solutions. Through this role, we contribute to shaping region-specific strategies that promote transparency, accountability, and the effective flow of capital to where it’s needed most—ensuring that purpose remains as central as performance.

“DISE’s managed funds – CABEF and H-REFF – successfully completed the investment period by building a portfolio of 16 investments in 7 countries in Central America and the Caribbean, which consists of 25 renewable energy generation projects with an aggregate capacity of 310 MW. We’re proud of the social and environmental impacts that our portfolio generates, such as job creation, new clean energy generation and carbon offsets. As we now focus our attention on asset management and portfolio divestment, we remain committed to abiding by the Operating Principles for Impact Management.”
Fernando Alvarado

CEO, Deetken Impact Sustainable Energy

In the time since our last annual disclosure in 2024, Deetken Impact Sustainable Energy (DISE) has further deepened its impact through a range of strategic initiatives. Among these is a beekeeping pilot project launched with technical assistance support—an initiative with a strong social and gender equity focus. The project is implemented by Soventix Caribbean, a DISE portfolio company dedicated to developing distributed generation and utility-scale clean energy solutions. Led by Innovación Rural, a family-run business in the Dominican Republic, the apiary initiative aims to create economic opportunities for women in nearby communities by providing training in basic beekeeping practices, value-added product development using honey, pollen, wax, and propolis, and guidance on marketing apiculture products.

In parallel, the DISE team successfully completed the gap analysis and acceleration phases of the Caribbean Climate Investment Program (CCIP). As part of this work, we convened capacity building workshops for 16 companies promoting climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, exploring key aspects of climate finance project development and investment readiness. Each participating company also underwent an individual assessment and gap analysis, receiving customized technical guidance from DISE experts. Notably, Navarrete Solar—one of the selected initiatives—secured a definitive concession from the Dominican Republic’s National Energy Commission.

Our ongoing efforts have also driven meaningful progress in environmental stewardship. GESSA, another DISE portfolio company, continues to advance its work in restoring the Betulia River micro-watershed. This includes completing a socioeconomic assessment to inform the design of a comprehensive watershed management plan. At the same time, GESSA is strengthening ties with local communities by supporting the capacity development of the BEFORSA Committee, which represents those living in the area of influence. Through this engagement, GESSA gains a deeper understanding of community needs and expectations, furthering its commitment to local sustainability. Additionally, as part of an agroforestry cacao project, the company continues to offer capacity-building activities to local producers through training sessions and visits to similar projects, as well as monitoring the benefits resulting from the use of clean stoves, a gender-focused technical assistance project implemented in 2023.

In 2024, DISE once again received notable recognition at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF), winning a prestigious CREF Award for Excellence. The 6th Annual CREF Industry Awards honor outstanding achievements in the clean energy sector within the Caribbean. DISE was awarded the Best Utility Scale Project for our investment in Cotoperi Solar – the largest solar photovoltaic project in the Caribbean, located in the Dominican Republic. This accolade is the second consecutive year that Deetken Impact Sustainable Energy (DISE) projects have been recognized, following a double win in 2023.

Reaffirming our commitment to the Operating Principles for Impact Management in 2025, we recognize their power not only as a framework for accountability, but as a catalyst for continuous learning and refinement. By anchoring our work in these Principles—and drawing inspiration from the evolving practices of our peers—we help fuel a virtuous cycle of innovation and rigor. As co-chair of the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Committee, we are proud to help shape the conversation and drive regional leadership in impact management. It is through this collective momentum that the impact investing industry can reach its full transformative potential.
